Prosecutor: Drugs likely involved in Ft. Mitchell homicide

FORT MITCHELL, KY (FOX19)- Kenton County Commonwealth Attorney Rob Sanders says drugs were likely involved in a deadly home invasion in Fort Mitchell that left an 18-year-old woman dead.

Michaela Briede, 18, was killed on May 28 in her apartment on West Chelsea Circle.

"The investigation indicates those responsible for the death of Miss Briede were looking for narcotics and/or money associated with narcotics," Sanders said in an email to FOX19.

Briede was an honor student and graduated in 2012 from Grant County High School and believed to be enrolled at Thomas More College.

Report made of jumper from Suspension Bridge

(FOX19)- Emergency crews are combing the Ohio River after receiving word of a person jumping off the James A. Roebling Suspension Bridge.

The report was made around 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Authorities have closed the suspension bridge to traffic while investigating the report.

INDEPENDENCE, KY (FOX19) - A Flag Day tradition that gives unserviceable American flags proper disposal is being held in Independence.

American Legion Moon Brothers Post 275 will conduct a ceremony of dignified disposal of unserviceable American Flags on Flag Day, June 14th at 7:00 p.m. at Sterling Staggs Park.

Anyone needing to drop off an unserviceable flag may do so at the disposal ceremony. Everyone is encouraged to attend this patriotic tradition and respectful disposal.

DHL inaugurates new $105 million expansion

HEBRON, KY (FOX19)- DHL cut the ribbon on its newly expanded global super hub at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport on Thursday morning.

The event marked the culmination of a $105 million, four-year effort to meet the growing international shipping demands for companies large and small. 

DHL's principal hub at CVG connects over 100 service centers and international gateways in DHL's International network in the U.S. The location also acts as a gateway for shipments to and from international locations.

The hub opened at CVG in 1983 and expanded the facility in 2003. Since the expansion, DHL has invested approximately $272 million in the facility.

The facility contains state-of-the-art technology. The semi-automated facility is suited for DHL's current U.S. volume of international shipment levels with the capacity to further increase volumes.

Crews fight overnight fire in Independence

INDEPENDENCE, KY (FOX19)- Firefighters are looking into the cause of an overnight fire in Independence, Ky.

The fire broke out around 2:00 a.m. on Thursday morning in the 800 block of Cox Road.

Upon arrival, crews reported heavy smoke and flames at the scene.

Authorities say the home was vacant at the time. The fire began in the rear of the building. 

The has been no word on whether anyone was hurt in the blaze.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Gateway to Success Job Fair Features 60+ Employers

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19)  — More than 60 employers will participate in a Gateway to Success Job Fair Thursday from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Center for Advanced Manufacturing at Gateway Community and Technical College’s Boone Campus, 500 Technology Way, Florence.

The fair is preceded by a vendor lunched sponsored by Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve from noon to 1 p.m. Col. (Ret.) Philip Miller will speak at the luncheon.

Exhibitors are invited to arrive as early as 10:45 a.m. to set up and participate in a tour of Gateway’s advanced manufacturing training facilities that prepare workers for good-paying careers in computer aided drafting and design, computerized manufacturing and machining, electrical technology, energy technologies, industrial maintenance, pre-engineering and welding.

Covington Commissioner's criminal record under investigation

COVINGTON, KENTUCKY (FOX19)- A Covington City Commissioner is under investigation to see
whether or not she is 'legally' holding office, FOX19 confirmed on Tuesday.

Kenton County Attorney Garry Edmonson tells FOX19 that
Michelle Williams, who took office in January, is being investigated for her criminal record.

According to Edmonson, she was convicted in a 1988 Virginia
Military Court and was dishonorably discharged for theft. She was charged with a
2008 misdemeanor theft in Boone County, and in 2010, she was charged with
misdemeanor drug possession in Kenton County.

The Kentucky Constitution states that anyone convicted of a
felony or high misdemeanor cannot hold public office in the Commonwealth.

Both Williams and her lawyer declined to comment at Tuesday
evening's budget meeting.
