Kentucky Lt. Gov. Jerry Abramson to Speak at Gateway Commencement May 15

COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) — Kentucky Lieutenant Governor Jerry Abramson will be the commencement speaker May 15 at Gateway Community and Technical College’s 12th annual graduation ceremony, according to Dr. Ed Hughes, college president and CEO.

“We are delighted that the lieutenant governor could join us for this milestone event in our students’ lives,” Dr. Hughes said. “We believe Lt. Gov. Abramson’s example of achievement and community service will be inspiring to our graduates.”

The class of 2013 numbers 845 graduates who have earned a total of 1,464 credentials. The credential count exceeds the number of graduates because students may earn more than one credential.  The credential breakdown includes 362 associate degrees, 93 technical diplomas and 1,009 certificates.

Gov. Beshear expands Medicaid in KY

FRANKFORT, KY (FOX19)- Gov. Steve Beshear has announced the inclusion of 308,000 more Kentuckians in the federal Medicaid health insurance program.

The expansion, together with the creation of the Health Benefit Exchange, ensures that every Kentuckian will have access to affordable health insurance.  

The expansion – made in accordance with the federal Affordable Care Act (ACA) – will help hundreds of thousands of Kentucky families and create nearly 17,000 new jobs and have a $15.6 billion positive economic impact on the state between its beginning in Fiscal Year 2014 and full implementation in Fiscal Year 2021, he said. 

Regional Job Fair hosts 40 employer booths

An average of nearly
700 job seekers will attended the Employment Extravaganza Thursday May 9, 2013. 

Over 40 employer booths will be set up at Receptions Banquet
& Conference Center. 

Hosted by Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, the
region's largest job fair includes participants varying from Fifth Third Bank
to UPS to Sun Chemical Corp. 

The event will take place from 2 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. at
1397 Donaldson Rd. 

The event is free for all job seekers and transportation
will be provided from the Covington Transit Center to the job fair ever
half-hour from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at a cost of $1.50.

Erlanger Police arrest Ohio drug suspect

ERLANGER, KY (FOX19)- Erlanger Police arrested a drug suspect Wednesday night.

Marvin Kelley, 30, had an active probation violation warrant from Hamilton County for dealing dangerous drugs.

At around 10:30 p.m., Erlanger Police received information that Kelley was staying at an apartment on Greenfield.

Due to a history of violence, the Erlanger SRT was activated, the residence was secured and Kelley was arrested without incident.

He was taken to the Kenton County Detention Center pending a transfer to Ohio.

Car Show & Family Fun Festival at Kenton County Library

INDEPENDENCE, KY (FOX19) - A day for family fun is coming to the Durr barnch Library in Independence.

The Durr Library Car Show & Family Fun Festival is on Saturday, May 11 from 11am - 2pm.

Sixteen cars will be on display at the William E. Durr Branch Library Car Show. Awards will be given for Best of Show, People’s Choice and Library Choice. Awards announced at 1 p.m.

The Family Fun Festival includes games, treats, a whip cream pie eating contest, the bearded librarian and the Florence Community Band musicians.

The event is free but everyone is encouraged to bring a donation of school supplies.
