Red-hot night of jazz at the Behringer-Crawford Musuem

COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) - The Behringer-Crawford Musuem will open their doors to music lovers across the Tri State for jazz nights.

Mike and Dannita Wade and the Jazz Ambassadors will be featured at the musuem on Thursday, June 20.

Mike Wade is performing as the next event in the 2013 Music@BCM series, which features an eclectic mix of concerts, ranging from brass to the blues to the bayou. The series of Thursday night concerts runs through August 1.

The doors open at 6 p.m, for food and drinks, and the concert runs from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission is only $5 for adults and $3 for children, and includes the great music, refreshments from Reality Tuesday Cafe, and the unmatched ambiance of an evening in Devou Park. Concertgoers can also purchase great food from Colonial Cottage, and support local youth and community organizations in the process. BCM members will receive one free drink ticket.

ERLANGER, KY (FOX19) - The Carnegie and the Erlanger Library have partnered up to offer a free song writing workshop for children ages 12-17 at the Erlanger Branch Library.

Hyde Park Square Art Show awards four scholarships

The Hyde Park Square Art Show, the largest one-day art show in Greater Cincinnati, has awarded four scholarships of $2,500 each to area students majoring in the arts at Cincinnati-area colleges and universities.

The winners of the scholarships are Alex Beard, Norwood; Alaina Hartman, Cincinnati; Katie Dobson, Cincinnati and Tyler Griese, Park Hills, KY.

Beard attends Xavier University and is on track to receive a bachelor of fine arts degree in the spring of 2014 with a concentration in fibers and a minor in art history. Alex is planning to attend graduate school at New York University for a master’s in art conservation.

Hartman is a senior at the College of Mt. St. Joseph with a double major of English and Art. She plans to earn a master’s degree in education to teach both Art and English at the high school level.

COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) - The rebranded 4th Sunday MainStrasse Antiques Etc., now The Village Vintage & Arts Bazaar, kicked off in April, and the next Bazaar will be Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend, May 26, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.  

This outdoor event will be held every 4th Sunday, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., through October.  The Bazaar is free to shoppers, and all are invited to browse and buy from vendors lining the 6th Street Promenade in MainStrasse Village in Covington, KY and encouraged to check out the cool neighborhood shops and locally-owned restaurants afterwards, like Otto’s, one of the event’s season sponsors.

To support the local community, each month The Village Vintage & Art Bazaar is planning on hosting art from a local school or non-profit organization.

New name and more art at MainStrasse antique shop

COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) - Organizers of the 4th Sunday MainStrasse Antiques, Etc. have renamed the outdoor shop The Village Vintage & Arts Bazaar. 

Described as a marketplace with purveyors of art, antique, vintage and re-purposed items such as furniture, home goods and decor, architectural elements, tools, jewelry, clothing, gadgets, collectibles and more, organizers want to attract more vendors and more shoppers.

This outdoor shop is still every 4th Sunday, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., April – October, and the first date of 2013 will be Sunday, April 28.  The Bazaar is free to shoppers, and all are welcome to browse and buy from vendors lining the 6th Street promenade in MainStrasse Village in Covington, KY and encouraged to eat at one of the nearby locally-owned restaurants and check out the cool shops afterwards, like Julie’s Inspiration Consignment Shoppe, who will be open 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. for their 8th Annual Spring Vintage Trunk Show.

Hasan Davis Highlights Gateway Super Sunday Recruiting Fair Feb. 24

COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) – Hasan Davis, commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice and a performer/youth advocate, will be featured at the third annual Super Sunday recruiting fair hosted by Gateway Community and Technical College Feb. 24.

Davis, who is also a motivational speaker, will reenact the experience of York, a slave who accompanied William Clark and Meriwether Lewis on their historic expedition to explore the American West.

Super Sunday is a free event that will occur Sunday, Feb. 24, beginning at 1 p.m. at Gateway’s Urban Center at 525 Scott Blvd. Covington. The event is open to the public and is co-hosted by the Ninth Street Baptist Church of Covington.

“Super Sunday has become an annual opportunity for Gateway to reinforce to all students that a quality education is the best preparation for a good job,” said Gateway President and CEO Ed Hughes.

Several free community events scheduled for Macy's Arts Sampler 2013

(FOX19) - Macy's Arts Sampler, presented by ArtsWave, celebrates theater, dance, museums, and music throughout the region in more than 20 Tri-State neighborhoods. The annual community campaign, which raised $11.2 million dollars in 2012, supports local arts organizations.

Over 60 free performances and/or activities will be offered in the following neighborhoods: Clermont County, Columbia Tusculum, College Hill, Covington, Eden Park, Fairfield, Mason, West Chester and Wyoming

The 2013 ArtsWave campaign, the largest united arts fund in the country, runs from February through April, and the goal is $11.5 million.
