COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) - As part of the World Choir Games held in Cincinnati next month, Children’s Home of Northern Kentucky will host a free Friendship Concert on the front lawn of its historic Covington campus on Saturday, July 7.
The concert begins at 4:00 p.m. and showcases three children’s choirs that are competing in the World Choir Games, including the Morten Boerup Choir from Denmark, the Melodia Children’s Choir from Russia, and the St. Michael Children’s Choir from Ohio.
“We’re thrilled to be involved with such an incredible event for the city and the United States. The World Choir Games is the largest international choral competition in the world … it’s amazing to think our Home will have a part to play in welcoming over 60 nations and more than 350 choirs to the tri-state area,” says Rick Wurth, Vice President for Development at CHNK.
Children's Home of Northern Kentucky is one of just a handful of Northern Kentucky locations accepted as sites for a Friendship Concert. With a backdrop that includes the Ohio River, downtown Cincinnati, downtown Covington, and all the bridges connecting the two cities, the Home’s front lawn is a perfect location for this landmark event in the area's history.
There is no charge to attend a Friendship Concert, but CHNK recommends that guests reserve tickets online since space is limited. Anyone reserving tickets in advance will receive priority seating for the concert, having access to a special section of lawn closest to the performance area. Tickets can be reserved at http://chnkfriendshipconcert.eventbrite.com/.
Since the concert takes place around dinner time, CHNK is turning the event into a picnic atmosphere. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. Food and other refreshments will be available for purchase, including grilled hot dogs, bratwursts, hamburgers, chips, water, and pop.
Rick Wurth explains, “Our concert is scheduled to conclude at 5:30 p.m., and another Friendship Concert takes place at the Devou Park band shell at 7:30 p.m. We’re hoping folks come for the concert, hang out on our lawn for an extra hour or so – enjoying dinner while here – and then head down to the band shell to hear choirs from Norway and the Ukraine.”
