Gateway to Success Job Fair Features 60+ Employers

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19)  — More than 60 employers will participate in a Gateway to Success Job Fair Thursday from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Center for Advanced Manufacturing at Gateway Community and Technical College’s Boone Campus, 500 Technology Way, Florence.

The fair is preceded by a vendor lunched sponsored by Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve from noon to 1 p.m. Col. (Ret.) Philip Miller will speak at the luncheon.

Exhibitors are invited to arrive as early as 10:45 a.m. to set up and participate in a tour of Gateway’s advanced manufacturing training facilities that prepare workers for good-paying careers in computer aided drafting and design, computerized manufacturing and machining, electrical technology, energy technologies, industrial maintenance, pre-engineering and welding.

New retail and office facility coming to Taylor Mill business district

TAYLOR MILL, KY (FOX19) - An announcement was make on Wednesday that a new 18,000 square foot retail and office facility is coming to the Taylor Mill business district.

The City of Taylor Mill and The Holland Restaurant Group are excited to begin construction on the development that will be known as The Districts of Taylor Mill.

The new complex already has two tenants locked into a deal. A new 6,000 square foot LaRosa's will open, making the Taylor Mill location the largest in the Tri State.

It will feature indoor and our seating, a party room, a game room and full service bar. The opening of this location is actually a relocation for the restaurant in Latonia. LaRosa's Latonia will close in February 2014 without an interruption in service to customers as it moves to Taylor Mill.

Gateway, McHale's Jointly Showcase Downtown Covington Expansion

COVINGTON, KY (FOX19)  — Gateway Community and Technical College and McHale’s Events and Catering are opening the doors to their new facilities at Odd Fellows Hall with a public reception from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 20 at The Grand/Historic Odd Fellows Hall.

The event marks the kick-off of Gateway’s new Instructional Design and Learning (IDL) Technology associate degree program, the first of its kind in the nation. Guests will be able to visit the building’s fourth floor for an introduction to IDL as well as the college’s Visual Communications program, the Center for eLearning, and a tour of the innovative learning environment. These related disciplines intersect in preparing students for high-wage, high-demand jobs in information management fields.

Mazak awarded $224,050 in KY WINS funding for Gateway Training

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) – Gateway Community and Technical College said today that Mazak Corporation has been awarded $224,050 in funds from KY WINS to provide skill upgrades for newly hired employees at its Florence manufacturing facility. Gateway will conduct the training, which is aimed at developing the new employees as CNC technicians, at its Boone Campus.  

“Gateway helps us sharpen our competitive edge by working with us to provide customized skill upgrades to our workforce,” said Mike Vogt, vice president of human resources and general affairs at MazakUSA. “We rely on Gateway to help us keep our current workforce up to date and as a source of well-trained new employees.”

Business community rallies in support of Catholic urban schools

COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) - The Alliance for Catholic Urban Education (ACUE), established by the Diocese of Covington more than 15 years ago, announces the second year of an Appeal to the corporate/business community in Greater Cincinnati to support the Catholic elementary schools serving students and families in urban areas of Northern Kentucky.

The ACUE Corporate Appeal, energized by great leaders and volunteers from both Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky, is an effort of the Diocese to engage the corporate/business community to benefit the students attending elementary schools in ACUE.

This year’s Corporate Appeal officially began Feb. 12 under the leadership of chair William (Bill) Zeck, a retired executive of Cincinnati’s David J. Joseph Company.  About 200 business leaders will be contacted from now through March by more than 35 volunteers from the business and professional community representing ACUE.

 CBP Global Entry Enrollment Center opens at Port of Cincinnati

ERLANGER, KY (FOX19) - U.S. Customs and Border Protection recently announced the opening of a Global Entry enrollment center within the CBP Port of Cincinnati, located at 4243 Olympic Blvd. Suite 210 in Erlanger, KY.

The office opened on February 26, and operates Tuesday – Thursday from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. The contact number for the new Port of Cincinnati CBP Global Entry enrollment center is 859-282-6308.

Enrollment centers are a vital component of Global Entry, which is a voluntary trusted traveler program that uses automated kiosks to expedite the CBP clearance process for pre-approved, low-risk international travelers entering the United States. Global Entry members are also eligible to participate in other CBP trusted traveler programs and TSA Pre-Check.

Hagan appointed as CBC Board Member

Hagan appointed as CBC Board Member

COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) - George Hagan, Founder and President of Providence Pavilion,  has been appointed to the Covington Business Council (CBC) Board of Directors for a two-year term.

Hagan’s term, which will run through March 1, 2015, was announced enthusiastically by CBC Executive Director Pat Frew.

“George is a man of integrity and is a recognized business leader and investor in our community.  His keen insights and strong desire to see the city grow and prosper will not only benefit the Council but the community as well,” said Frew.

Hagan was part of an investor group that purchased the historic St. Elizabeth North hospital campus in 2009.  A diverse group of enterprises operate there including Providence Pavilion’s rehabilitation and nursing center, professional offices, day care centers and community services operations.
