Red-hot night of jazz at the Behringer-Crawford Musuem

COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) - The Behringer-Crawford Musuem will open their doors to music lovers across the Tri State for jazz nights.

Mike and Dannita Wade and the Jazz Ambassadors will be featured at the musuem on Thursday, June 20.

Mike Wade is performing as the next event in the 2013 Music@BCM series, which features an eclectic mix of concerts, ranging from brass to the blues to the bayou. The series of Thursday night concerts runs through August 1.

The doors open at 6 p.m, for food and drinks, and the concert runs from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission is only $5 for adults and $3 for children, and includes the great music, refreshments from Reality Tuesday Cafe, and the unmatched ambiance of an evening in Devou Park. Concertgoers can also purchase great food from Colonial Cottage, and support local youth and community organizations in the process. BCM members will receive one free drink ticket.

How many pancakes can you eat?

Kenton County Public Library and First Watch are pairing up again for the fifth annual Pancake Contest.  The contest is being held to promote the Library Foundation’s tenth annual 5k Run and Walk. The pancake eating contest is on Tuesday, June 4th at 10 a.m. at First Watch in Covington.

The community is invited to watch the pancake eating contest.

The Library’s run, which benefits early childhood literacy is on Saturday, June 8th. It starts at 9.a.m in front of the library in Covington. Participants in the race get a t-shirt and a pancake breakfast provided by First Watch in the parking lot of Gateway.  Registration is only $20 if you do it ahead of time and $25 if registered the day off.

There will be kid activities such as circus performers there as well.

INDEPENDENCE, KY (FOX19) - A day for family fun is coming to the Durr barnch Library in Independence.

The Durr Library Car Show & Family Fun Festival is on Saturday, May 11 from 11am - 2pm.

Sixteen cars will be on display at the William E. Durr Branch Library Car Show. Awards will be given for Best of Show, People’s Choice and Library Choice. Awards announced at 1 p.m.

The Family Fun Festival includes games, treats, a whip cream pie eating contest, the bearded librarian and the Florence Community Band musicians.

The event is free but everyone is encouraged to bring a donation of school supplies.

Gateway April 30 Expo Connects Parents with Employers

FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) — Students and parents attending the Advanced Manufacturing Expo at Gateway Community and Technical College April 30 can learn firsthand from local manufacturers about the bright job outlook for manufacturing careers.

Six local employers are scheduled to attend the education expo at Gateway’s Boone Campus in Florence April 30. They include DHL, Mubea, Mazak, Ellison Group, the Center for Integrative Natural Science and Mathematics, and Virtual Manufacturing Services.

The expo is open to the public and begins at 5 p.m. Participants can tour Gateway’s high-tech Integrated Manufacturing Center, Computerized Manufacturing and Machining Lab, and Welding Lab between 5 and 6 p.m., and meet with local employers between 6 and 7 p.m. Gateway will conduct an information session on college credit that can be earned in high school from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Apprenticeship information will be shared from 6:30 to 7 p.m.

Annual Kids Olympic event being held in Covington

COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) - Over 100 kids will participate in Give Back Cincinnati’s Kids’ Olympics on Saturday, April 27 from 10 am to 2 pm in Northern Kentucky.

Kids’ Olympics is hosted exclusively at the Boys and Girls Club MSU branch in Covington by volunteers from both organizations who provide an exciting afternoon of “field day” games, food, and team building for local youth.

This is the second year of partnership between Give Back Cincinnati and Boys and Girls Club of Greater Cincinnati, one that has proven instrumental for attracting kids to the event.

Gateway April 30 Expo Highlights Career, Education Opportunities to Students, Parents

Florence, KY (April 11, 2013) – Gateway Community and Technical College will host an evening for high school students and their parents to tour the college’s high-performance labs and learn about manufacturing careers, college credit available in high school, and apprenticeships.  The Advanced Manufacturing Expo is April 30 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Center for Advanced Manufacturing on the Boone Campus, 500 Technology Way, Florence.

The event is free and open to the public. No reservations are needed. In addition to college officials, Gateway’s industry partners will be on hand to discuss career opportunities and educational requirements with parents and students.

“The expo is designed to give parents and students a chance to learn more about the exciting and high-paying careers that are available in the high-performance production environment,” said Carissa Schutzman, Gateway’s dean of Workforce Solutions.
