The GCCHSS, sponsored by the Health Foundation of Greater Cincinnati, was last conducted in 2005. This neighborhood level data is new with the 2010 survey. “We find that in many ways we’re similar to the region,” says Tom DiBello, of the Center for Great Neighborhoods, “But there are important differences –some which clearly show disparities.” The Health Foundation worked in cooperation with place matters on the neighborhood oversample in Covington and two other place matters communities – Avondale and Price Hill.
The survey also learned that of adults in Covington:
• 4 out of 10 are obese
• 3 out of 10 have been told that they have high blood pressure
• 3 out of 10 have been told that they have high cholesterol
• 3 out of 10 have been told they suffer from depression
The survey also found that even though 8 of 10 adults age 18-65 have health insurance and 8 of 10 have a usual and appropriate source of health care, that 3 out of 10 adults did not have a routine checkup in the past year.

The Greater Cincinnati Community Health Status Survey (GCCHSS) gives an in-depth look at the self-reported health of tri-state residents. Through comparisons, the 2010 GCCHSS shows how the tri-state area stacks up to the rest of the country and how our health is changing over time. The results give organizations and agencies, policy makers, and residents the local data they need as they work to improve the overall health of the Greater Cincinnati area. As part of the 2010 GCCHSS, the Health Foundation oversampled three neighborhoods in the core of the region – Avondale, Price Hill and Covington – to allow for neighborhood-level analysis.
The GCCHSS is a project of The Health Foundation of Greater Cincinnati and is conducted by the Institute for Policy Research at the University of Cincinnati.
