New home store open in old Newport Thriftway location

New home store open in old Newport Thriftway location

NEWPORT, KY (FOX19) – A retailer that says it is a low-priced alternative to the leading home improvement chains has opened in Newport.

Builder’s Surplus is open in the old Newport Thriftway store at 20 West 6th.  That store had been empty for years after Winn—Dixie, operating in this area with the Thriftway name after buying the chain, left the Tri-state.

Builder’s Surplus sounds something like a Big Lots for building materials.  They buys overstocks, overruns, and discounted building materials from around the world.  They also will custom order items not found in the stores and have staff on hand to custom make doors and provide interior decorating advice.  They claim an unsurpassed inventory in their price range.

This the second and larger store for the company.  Their original location is in Louisville.

Builders Surplus Newport is open now it’s a “soft opening”; the grand opening is sometime in the future.
