Thomas More College names new president

CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY (FOX19)- Thomas More College in Crestview Hills, Ky., has announced that David A. Armstrong will become the college's 14th president.

The Thomas More College Board of Trustees elected him. The Bishop of the Diocese of Covington and Chancellor of Thomas More College The Most Reverend Roger J. Foys approved the selection. Armstrong replaces Sister Margaret Stallmeyer, C.D.P., who will retire as president effective June 30, 2013.  He will take the helm July 1, 2013. 

Armstrong is currently the vice president and general counsel of Notre Dame College in South Euclid, Ohio, where he was instrumental in increasing enrollment and retention, securing the largest gift ($2.1 million) in college history and developing new academic programs and initiatives, along with leading a re-branding campaign in 2010.  

KY gets millions to help former Comair employees

ERLANGER, KY (FOX19)- Governor Steve Beshear announced that Kentucky will receive a nearly $3 million National Emergency Grant to assist workers affected by the closure of Comair in Erlanger.

The majority of funds, administered through the Northern Kentucky Area Development District, will be used for training and education, which can include college, certifications and other credentials.

The training and education will be targeted to six areas that are showing growth in the northern Kentucky region including advanced manufacturing, health, information technology, logistics/distribution, energy and services.

In addition, staff at the local Northern Kentucky One Stop Career Centers will advise displaced workers on careers, provide assessments of skills, prepare them for the job search with resume writing and interviewing techniques, and help them with job placement.

Covington resident selling clovers on Craigslist

You can buy a little luck for just $7, thanks to a Craigslist post.

A Covington resident is selling two four leaf clovers, according to a post on Craigslist Sunday afternoon

The posting reads, "I have two live four leaf clovers. They are still growing so you can come pick them yourself. $10 for both or $7 if you only want one."

The posting included photographic proof of the clover's existence. The exact location wasn't specified, seemingly to ward off clover snatchers.

 

 

 

Touch the Moon at the Mainstrasse Village Maifest

COVINGTON, KENTUCKY (FOX19)- Residents attending Maifest 2013 in Covington, Ky., will have the rare chance to touch a nearly 4-billion-year-old piece of moon rock at NASA's Driven to Explore traveling exhibit, a multimedia experience that immerses visitors in the story of NASA. 

The exhibit will be open from 5 to 11:30 p.m. Friday, May 17; from noon to 11:30 p.m. Saturday, May 18, and from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday, May 19. 

The centerpiece of Driven to Explore is the opportunity to touch a lunar rock sample brought to Earth by the astronauts of Apollo 17 in 1972, America's last human mission to the moon. The rock is one of only eight lunar samples made available for the public to touch.

Local adult swimmers make waves at national meet

KY (FOX19) - Two area adult swimmers competed at the United States Masters Swimming Short Course National Championships held at the famed IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis, IN.  

Over May 9-12th, Loretta Race (Independence, KY) placed 5th in her age group in the Women’s 100 Butterfly, while Chad Ashmore (Cincinnati, OH) placed 6th in his age group in the Men’s 1000 Freestyle. 

Loretta and Chad represented the Northern Kentucky Swordfish Masters (NKSM) team at the event.  NKSM is a start-up U.S. Masters Swimming program currently training at Silverlake - “The Family Place” in Erlanger, KY.  

 

Final showing to be held of NKY mystery mansion

EDGEWOOD, KY (FOX19)- This weekend marks the final showing of a phenomenal home recently built in Northern Kentucky.

The home, located at 3313 Turkeyfoot Road in Edgewood, has managed to create quite a 'buzz' around town.

It is roughly 15,000 square feet sitting on approximately eight acres of land. Crews have been working to complete the mansion for over a year.

The custom home was built by Tim Burks Builder, Inc. of Fort Thomas, and the interior design for the home was led by Grace Jones of 'Dwellings' Interior Design in O'Bryonville.

The design is inspired by turn-of-the-century, classic French Chateau estates. The home is bordered by a lake with an arched stone monument wall, 'resembling the Roman Aqueducts'.

3 arrested after armed robbery at Crestview Hills Town Center

CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY (FOX19)- Three people are facing charges after an armed robbery at the Crestview Hills Town Center.

Police were called to the shopping center on Thursday on a report that a suspect approached a vehicle, brandished a firearm and demanded the victim's purse. Once the woman handed over her purse, the suspect fled with two others in a red SUV.

A vehicle matching the description was subsequently stopped by police on Dixie Highway near the I-275 interchange. The victim positively ID'd the suspect. All three suspects were taken into custody, charged with robbery. They have been identified as Michael Kenyon, Johnita Gamble and Tyrone Robinson.
