CCH student receives statewide writing award

PARK HILLS, KY (FOX19) - Covington Catholic High School is proud to announce that student Norb Wessels won 1st place in Kentucky for his essay in a contest sponsored by the Kentucky Secretary of State. Mr. Wessels was asked to write about the role of the press in covering independent candidates. The Secretary of State challenged young essayists to consider the constitutionality of forcing media to provide better coverage of nascent independent hopefuls.

Mr. Wessels was the 10th grade winner for the state of Kentucky. As a result, he was awarded $750 and received a certificate recognizing him as a Kentucky Ambassador.  Patrick Kiel, the personal assistant to Secretary of State Elaine Walker, presented the award to Norb during a brief ceremony at CCH. This is the third time in the past five years that a CCH student has won this award.
