Jerry Springer coming here to join the circus, at least for a night

LUDLOW, KY (FOX19) – Jerry Springer, the former Cincinnati Mayor and news anchor who has been dubbed “Ringmaster” for the role he plays on his TV show, will become a real ringmaster for a night at Ludlow-based Circus Mojo.  Donning a pair of giant shoes and a top hat, Springer will serve as celebrity ringmaster alongside his side kick Cincinnati Council Woman Laure Quinlivan, Ludlow Mayor Ken Wynn and an international cast.

A 7-Ball Juggler from Togo, an aerialist from Mexico City and Gym Wheel performers from Argentina and Ethiopia will perform alongside adults with disabilities from Catholic Residential Services and students from Ludlow, SCPA and other area schools.  Other featured guests include trained medical clown Valerie Elbaz from Israel as well as Ludlow's native son and best-selling author Rick Robinson.

Gateway Web Manager Receives Statewide Excellence Award

Covington, KY  (May 23, 2012) – Tess Burns of Covington received  the New Horizons Award of Excellence as the outstanding support staff member among all staff members in the 16-college Kentucky Community and Technical College System.  Burns is web services and social media manager at Gateway Community and Technical College in Northern Kentucky.  

“Simply being nominated by your peers for New Horizons recognition is the highest honor an employee can receive within the system,” said Gateway President/CEO Ed Hughes. “To be selected for the statewide award truly signifies that you are the best of the best.”

Burns was nominated by her peers not only for her work in web services and social media but also for her creativity and innovation in developing and delivering professional development opportunities, such as “5 Things We Can Learn from Lady Gaga,” related to online communications.

Gateway Students Named to State All-Academic Team

 

Covington, Ky. (May 22, 2012)) –  Gateway Community and Technical College graduates Bethany Survant and Bobbie Stubbeman have been named to the Kentucky Community and Technical College System's 2012 All-Academic Team.

Survant and Stubbeman were honored May 16 at the 11th annual KCTCS Student Academic Achievement luncheon at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Louisville.

Survant, who lives in Florence, graduated from Gateway Thursday with an associate in applied science degree in medical information technology.  She received a President’s Scholarship for the 2011-12 academic year, was named the Pi Rho Phi speech honorary member of highest distinction, and earned the 2012 J.D. Patton Award for outstanding academic, leadership and technical performance.

COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) - Gateway Community and Technical College recognized more than 200 students Wednesday for outstanding academic, leadership or technical performance at its annual Night of Excellence awards convocation held at Notre Dame Academy in Park Hills.

Chenel Stewart of Burlington and Bethany Survant of Florence received top honors as winners of the  J.D. Patton Award. Survant and Bobbie Stubbeman of Walton were named to the Kentucky Community and Technical College All-Academic Team, recognizing outstanding academic performance.

The Gateway to Justice club, which raises awareness about domestic violence, human trafficking and other social justice issues, was recognized as student organization of year.

YMCA Is Looking For Nominations Of Professionals Who Give Back

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The YMCA of Greater Cincinnati is looking for professionals who share its vision of nurturing the potential of young people, and promoting healthy living and social responsibility. Selected and sponsored by their companies to represent them, YMCA Achievers who will be honored at the 2012 Salute to YMCA Black & Latino Achievers Gala will also commit to volunteering a year to inspire students toward paths of success. Nomination sponsorships are being accepted through June 1, 2012.

YMCA Camp Ernst Announces Major Renovations

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Since 1928, thousands of youth from throughout the region and around the world come to the beautiful, sprawling, park-like setting of YMCA Camp Ernst where they strengthen their skills and make diverse friendships in an environment that stresses positive character values.  This summer, on their way to check-in, campers will see an all new Welcome and Health Center under construction. Funded with a lead gift from the Schiff Foundation, the new Center is part of the first phase of what is the camp’s first major multi-million dollar renovation since the 1970s.

Gateway Students Earn Addy Awards

Florence, KY (April 24, 2012)—Mollie Neff, of Independence, a graphic arts student at Gateway Community and Technical College, was awarded a District 5 Silver Student ADDY Award for her Becca Boone Bourbon package design. The competition consisted of students from Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia.

The ADDY Awards are awarded by the American Advertising Federation and reviewed by the National ADDY Committee. The ADDY Awards represent the true spirit of creative excellence by recognizing all forms of advertising from media of all types, creative in all sizes and entrants of all levels from anywhere in the world. Neff will now compete in the national competition.

Six other local ADDYs were awarded to Gateway students. Mike Lannigan, of Edgewood, received a silver ADDY, Neff received two local silver ADDYs, and Joe Webb, of Cold Spring, received three silver ADDY awards.
